I liked the towers. I thought they anchored the skyline, and I would like to see them rebuilt exactly as they were before. Alas, it'll never happen, and Manhattan will have a bizarro skyline.
As a Chicagoan, if somehow the Sears Tower or the Hancock Building were ever destroyed, I'd probably want them rebuilt as they were (as least lookwise).
Yep. To me, it's the ultimate fuck-you to the terrorists. Replacing the landmark with something lame seems like a defeat.
I can't really answer the complaint that you'd never be able to tenant the rebuilt towers, tho.
Eli, all of us have some things to feel like crap about. Blogwhoring to your friends at Atrios' place need not be that for you: the other Atriots see you as one of their own.
They value your wit, punning skill and beautiful photos, they complained a lot when you seemed to have deserted to newer pastures recently.
Guilt for blogwhoring is too small a thing…go out and sin a little. You need to have FUN first, to justify feeling like crap.
Thank you, polly, you're very kind. I just didn't like the idea of people visiting my blog only because I was telling them to, or assuming that if I wasn't whoring something, I must not have posted anything worth reading or seeing.
So I've basically abandoned all efforts to promote my blog, and I find that my peace of mind is much improved, even if my traffic isn't.
Those are some very cool pictures. I have to say I was never a fan of the WTC buildings; I thought they were distinctly characterless compared to a lot of the stuff in Manhattan. Having seen the skyline both ways, I think the contrast is...instructive. In some ways, I think the WTC buildings' being gone has restored Lower Manhattan to human scale, if that makes any sense to you.
I hate to be such a contrarian. Please keep posting pictures, Eli, and blogwhore on Eschaton all you like, too. I don't know who's been giving you static about it, but they can go scratch.
If I may blogwhore a bit myself, I offer my opinions on the subject only because September 11, 2001 happened to someone else.

Thanks, Interro. I don't think anyone's ever given me any static about it - it's purely an internal thing.

The second photograph is unique. Sigh... New York will never be the same...
Thanks.
I really do miss the damn things.

Damn, eli, but you do have an eye.
Thanks, geor3ge! Or used to, anyway...
