Holy crap, that tugboat is awesome!! I bet I know why it's painted that way -- to make it really stand out in a crowd of large ships, so nothing bumps into it, crosses lines with it, or pitch-poles it by accident, especially in fog.
I bet I know why it's painted that way --
it's plan B in the the dirty fuck'n hippies failed efforts to resurrect kesey's psychedelic bus.
Oddly enough, the tug is the "Hackensack", which is really not a name that I would associate with psychedlia.
Maybe if it had been "Hackysack"...
Well, lookee here!
this is a comment. :P
Heh. Thanks.
These pictures are wonderful. It's great that there's a crewman in the 'Spirit of New York' and that bright cable in the foreground.
Apparently Hackensack is owned by Intrepid Sea*Air*Space Museum. Hence the unusual paint job.
Thanks, Drano!
I'm, uh, not entirely sure I follow the logic on the paint job. Although I had the sense that it was not a standard working tug (the canoes in the back, f'rinstance...).
