Don't-You-Wish-You-Were-Here Vacation Photoblogging

While I personally am a cold-weather, city-loving Yankee, that does not preclude me from posting some eat-your-heart-out shots from my recent California vacation...

You can shoot some hoops on Laguna Beach, um... Beach.

Or you can go kayaking off the beach in La Jolla.

Or you can just find a nice quiet bench to sit down on...

And if all those options are just too overwhelming, you can always take a nap in the shade.

Lovely pictures, Eli. I hope it was a swell vacation. I was a bit north of there for mine at my folks' house.

Thank you for making me laugh so much over at Atrios'. This virtual world is so odd, I can't really even say that you were my friend (having never met you), but I'm sad at the thought that you're done over there.

it's all about the geometry with you.

it's really quite well done.

which is to say good job, and not it's been done, a distinction that must be made.

you have a style.

Aw, thanks, ina. I'm not 100% sure I'm done at Eschaton, but I definitely won't be around as much as I used to; probably mostly on late-night.

Thanks, charley! That always makes my day.

These pictures are making me miss Encinitas greatly. Sighing....

And you took no pictures of beach volley ball games?

Actually, I have a couple, but I liked the basketball shots better.

Ah, Cali.

Too bad you weren't there in winter, Eli. You could have done the surf and ski.

I used to live a few minutes from Newport Beach, but I usually drove the extra few miles to Corona del Mar or Monarch Bay or Laguna. Newport's beach was filthy. The beaches at Hermosa and Venice had even more to do than Laguna.

The Strand at Hermosa Beach is just wonderful. If I'd known you were going out there, I woulda asked you to visit Hermosa. Of course, that would have meant grabbing some sauteed mushrooms from The Mermaid for me. And maybe taking in some jazz at the Lighthouse. If either establishment is still there...

Hard to believe it's been 20 years since I lived in Cali. How the time flies.

Oh, those are beautiful photos. I want to be there! At least take a vacation there. It looks like such fun.

I know what you mean about having to do late night visitation to Eschaton. I haven't been commenting much for some time, due to work. Too much work. People quit and the folks that are there step in to help. Then, when you get to Eschaton, you find you want to read the comments which allows no time to comment. Sad but true.

It was a family reunion thing; it was all I could do to break free and wander Laguna Beach on my own between dinner and the show...

OWL, you should go do it! Cali is Caling you!

I spent a few years living right near La Jolla.

The whole place is basically Eden. And the psychological effect of having sunlight and warmth all year long is fairly stark.

I went to college in Northern CA - pretty scenic and sunny and all that. I couldn't wait to get back to New York.

I just have a big-city, cold-weather temperament. Although it would be nice to be able to play softball all year round...
